Microsoft Certified Application Developer (MCAD) - Overview

Our seven-day Microsoft Certified Application Developer (MCAD) program is appropriate for professionals who use Microsoft technologies to develop and maintain department-level applications, components, Web or desktop clients, or back-end data services or work in teams developing enterprise applications.

The Microsoft Certified Application Developer (MCAD) for Microsoft .NET 1.1 credential is aimed at developers who use Microsoft Visual Studio .NET and the .NET Framework to develop, deploy, and maintain department-level applications and components for Microsoft Windows and the Web. These developers also build enterprise solutions incorporating data services and XML Web services.

The MCAD Certification validates job roles that include tasks such as building, testing, and supporting Windows and Web applications built on the Microsoft .NET 1.1 Framework, and .NET connected applications and services. Individuals working in this job role typically have at least one to two years of relevant work experience. The MCAD certification is appropriate for programmers, software analysts, and software developers.

To earn the MCAD credential, candidates are expected to have one to two years of relevant work experience or the equivalent in these functions. Typical job titles include programmer, program manager, and software applications specialist. As a MCAD for Microsoft .NET candidate, you will be required to pass two core exams and one elective exam in your area of specialization.

Microsoft Certified Application Developer (MCAD) - Benefits

Reasons for Microsoft MCAD certification include career advancement, personal improvement, skills enhancement, and higher salaries. Certification garners industry recognition of your knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft most current products and technologies.

Technical certification is a sound investment in your career. Although certification does not guarantee success, research has shown that it can have a significant impact on:

  • Morale and confidence
  • Efficiency and productivity on the job
  • Monetary rewards
  • Career advancement

Other accelerated training providers rely heavily on lecture and independent self-testing and study.

Effective technical instruction must be highly varied and interactive to keep attention levels high, promote camaraderie and teamwork between the students and instructor, and solidify knowledge through hands-on learning.

Firebrand Training provides instruction to meet every learning need, including

  • Intensive group instruction
  • One-on-one instruction attention
  • Hands-on labs
  • Lab partner and group exercises
  • Question and answer drills
  • Independent study

This information has been provided as a helpful tool for candidates considering certification. Benefits of certification determined through studies do not guarantee any particular personal successes. Firebrand Training provides a guarantee of obtaining certification at the camp, but does not make any guarantees about personal successes or benefits of obtaining certification.

Certified Application Developer (MCAD) Testimonials

"Although the MCAD week was the most demanding training course I have ever attended, it was the most rewarding in terms of achievement. The instructor, Doug, kept everyone totally focused and did a great job throughout the week. 14 - 16 hours a day is very tiring, but it works! This is written before completing the second week to convert to MCSD. The toughest two weeks I've had for a long time!"
Paul Nolan, Nolan Business Services Ltd.
Microsoft MCAD (7 Days) (23/6/2003 to 29/6/2003)

David Myers, Brains Direct.
Microsoft MCAD (7 Days) (28/2/2005 to 6/3/2005)

"The MCAD is an intensive 7 day course and is very challenging, requiring huge commitment from students but this would be wasted without a really first rate tutor. The tutor went well beyond my expectations. I have never seen such a level of commitment and application of skilled tutoring. How he keeps up the pace while still remaining focused and clear is beyond my comprehension but I am very grateful for the experience."
Damian Clarke, MCI UK Limited.
Microsoft MCAD (7 Days) (23/5/2005 to 29/5/2005)

Microsoft MCAD (7 Days) (24/10/2005 to 30/10/2005)

"Doug Rees is the best instructor I have come across. The lessons were very well structured and focussed. You will learn more in 7 days then you would think possible. I enjoyed myself and also got my MCAD but this was the hardest and most exhausting 7 days of my life (12+ hours days + 4 hours self study!). Not for the faint hearted! "
Peter Clifton, Accenture.
Microsoft MCAD (7 Days) (2/8/2004 to 8/8/2004)

"With no background in development, I managed to pass the final exams. This could not have been achieved without the excellent guidance of the instructor."
Daniel Peacock, Group Santander.
Microsoft MCAD (7 Days) (18/9/2006 to 24/9/2006)

"Firebrand* experience, although exhausting is the best training experience I have encountered. The lecturer deserves the largest proportion of my priase. However it is quite evident that things are well orgainsed by the team at Heythrop."
Raj Sohal, Eon UK.
Microsoft MCAD (7 Days) (1/5/2006 to 7/5/2006)

"Once I understood what was required I found the experience a challenge as well as rewarding"
M.B, Self employed.

Tim Chung, NYK Logistics.
Microsoft MCAD (7 Days) (12/9/2005 to 18/9/2005)

"I can say in all honesty that the 7 day MCAD course is tough and the work is very intense. If you have never done an accelerated training course before, be prepared for the ride of your life. You will come out at the end totally exhausted and wanting to sleep for another week. Given a second chance I would do it again."
Alan Coomber, A System Controls company.
Microsoft MCAD (7 Days) (1/10/2007 to 7/10/2007)

"Hard work but worth it."
Roger Jewsbury, contractor.
Microsoft MCAD (7 Days) (18/9/2006 to 24/9/2006)

"Its hard work from morning to midnight but the satisfaction you get from passing an exam in 7 days that would take a minimum of 3 months self study more than makes up for it."
Paul Eason, american express.
Microsoft MCAD (7 Days) (1/5/2006 to 7/5/2006)

"The course was the most intensive and fast-moving learning I have ever experienced. An average nights sleep being five hours grabbed between reading. Not for the faint hearted then, but the knowledge gained in such a small amount of time, and the huge support given by all the staff of the camp to prop you up under all the pressure they put you under makes it all worth while. The trainers really are experts in their fields and go above and beyond the call of duty, lucidly explaining the most difficult concepts accurately and quickly."
Mark Ryan, Mortgages For Business.
Microsoft MCAD (7 Days) (11/12/2006 to 17/12/2006)

"I can't recommend coming on the course enough. It has been a big commitment in terms of time and money but has been well worth it. The training has been top noFirebrand*h not only in terms of exam preparation, but also in enabling me to perform in my job a lot more effectively. The working environment has also been perfect. Almost every aspect of the camp has exceeded my expectations."
Michael Pierson, Expert-24.com.
Microsoft MCAD (7 Days) (26/5/2003 to 1/6/2003)

"Every single aspect of Firebrand* was perfect. It is completely functional to all of your needs. As the training courses are accelerated and very tiring, you are advised at the beginning on when to study, how much time to allocate yourself to study, and even your diet to help you keep alert throughout the whole day. All staff are helpful and curteous, from the trainers through to the administrators and chefs. The meals, by the way, are quite fantastic; you don't just get egg & chips! Our trainer, Doug Rees, was quite phenominal. He answered every question comprehensively, controlled the class exteremly well, and paused to think before answering a question only twice during the whole week. You had absolute trust in all of his advice and technical ability. I arrogantly thought I was quite a good developer before I listened to his knowledge! "
M.S., Configure Ltd.
Microsoft MCAD (7 Days) (27/3/2006 to 2/4/2006)

"I would recomend anyone who wants to get an MCAD qualification to attend the Firebrand*. It is especially suited to people who don't have the time or discipline to do the self-study option. The quality of training staff is extremely high and the environment allows students to focus on one thing - passing the MCAD exams. "
Andy Breen, t-mobile.
Microsoft MCAD (7 Days) (15/8/2005 to 21/8/2005)

"Really hard work. I never thought I could learn so much so quickly. "
NS, Nordiko.
Microsoft MCAD (7 Days) (11/12/2006 to 17/12/2006)

"Firebrand* was an excellent way to acheive my MCAD in such a short space of time (one week). The course was intense and I was tired by the end, but it never lost its structure and was well organised towards passing the exams. Also, the food was awesome."
Richard Marriott, Ultimedia.
Microsoft MCAD (7 Days) (15/5/2006 to 21/5/2006)

"The training provided by Firebrand* was first rate and helped make the process of learning three courses worth of material in one week achievable. The instuctor was able to quickly address any problem presented as he had considerable real world experience at using the technology. All in all definately extremely hard work but worth it!"
Jason Williams, AstraZeneca.
Microsoft MCAD (7 Days) (21/11/2005 to 27/11/2005)

"Highly recommend training here. Although you are training for long hours every day without stop it keeps you focused and there are no distractions. The accomodation and food are excellant as well as the instructors."
Matt Gibson, Mitral Systems Ltd.
Microsoft MCAD (7 Days) (26/6/2006 to 2/7/2006)

"Very well presented. Very focused. Very intense. "
Mark Rudd, Self Employed.
Microsoft MCAD (7 Days) (9/1/2006 to 15/1/2006)

"If you are looking for relaxing, easy week then Firebrand* is not the place for you. You are pushed to work hard but the satisfaction in passing the exams and gaining your qualification make it worth it. A lot of content is covered in a very short space of time but the course showed me areas of my field that I was not aware of and that would be very useful to me in upcoming projects. I just need to spend a bit of time consolidating the information that I have learned. All in all it was an enjoyable, interesting week."
Ben Leach, Abelus Ltd.
Microsoft MCAD (7 Days) (6/3/2006 to 12/3/2006)

"Very hard work but you get out what you put in. I got my MCAD. Thank you!"
Paul Meaney, solarweb.
Microsoft MCAD (7 Days) (8/1/2007 to 14/1/2007)

"A highly effective way to study, and the only way to do 3 exams in a week from scraFirebrand*h! A short burst of study is easier to fit into a busy lifestyle."
Anthony White, Land Securities plc.
Microsoft MCAD (7 Days) (27/9/2004 to 3/10/2004)

"This is a great place to get a certification. I found it extremely hard work and the fast learning pace never let up but the effort put in paid off. The environment takes care of every need so you can concentrate 100% on the studying and the lecturer gave me the best possible chance of success. My hat off to him and the staff at Firebrand*."
David Lidiard, PerkinElmer.
Microsoft MCAD (7 Days) (6/2/2006 to 12/2/2006)

"In the words of John F. Kennedy - "We don't do it because it's easy, we do it because it's hard". But ultimately satisfing and bonding, met some great fellow students that I hope to keep in contact with and help in each others development in the future."
Alex McCormick, Freestyle New Media.
Microsoft MCAD (7 Days) (7/11/2005 to 13/11/2005)

"If you want to learn a subject that you have never even looked at before, then believe me when you leave here you will know everything about it. You may not pass the exams - this does not matter - you will be able to retake them almost immediately after you have left the course - just make sure you have a few good nights sleep first! If you are already familiar with your subject you should easily pass the exams. If you do the C# / vb.net development MCAD course then be prepared to see it in both languages - this can be a bit difficult to get your head around. Make sure you know sql before you attend - this is very heavily biased towards that language. Overall, if you don't have much time and you want to be in a good position to take your exams, then this is the place to be."
Marion Standing, N/A.
Microsoft MCAD (7 Days) (8/1/2007 to 14/1/2007)

"The camp is hard work, but with a bit of effort and dedication, is well worth attending."
M.W., Taylor Woodrow.
